Social networking sites: Virtual poison or medicine?

SOCIAL NETWORKINGHello everyone! Welcome to today’s post on Learning Life Daily. Since the past few days I have been speaking on a lot of ‘Life’ based topics and topics that feature in the philosophical section as well. So my today’s topic will certainly entice you to a greater extent. As we all know that in this era, a product no matter how great it may be, it would not sell if it is not marketed well. With the buzz in technology, everything is online. We have started to love the cyber world more than our real world that sometimes we fail to recognize, the real world out of the two. The craze of social networking is slowly catching up even with the older crowd and not just the young buds. How much addictive can this be? Is there a huge cyber trap awaiting us? Are we safe on the web? Or has it become an obsession? Let me explain this to you in a more lucid form and also through this article I will be telling you about the web and social media that is explorable to both positive and negative means.  The more the likes your profile picture has the more popular you are. Everyone is liking your status, it means you’re the most lovable person. You have too many people on your friend list, this shows how cool you can be. These all are the latest fads  developed by social networking sites. It is true that with the help of social networking sites, one can reach out and connect with people even far off. It enables one to build better bonds and thus have an active social life on the internet.

How much can we actually trust people on these sites? These days anyone can simply make a fake account and impose as someone else, creating a huge hazard to many lives. So how much can we rely on them? Who can guarantee if the person whose friend request we have accepted is indeed genuine or an imposter? There are loopholes and space for cyber crime. It has been observed that people want to hang out less with friends and socialize more on the net. In some cases you will find people not talking to each other when they meet face to face but strangely they are friends on some social networking sites. The idea of ‘socializing’ has been given a huge twist. So is this effecting our actual social and personal lives? Is the virtual world being given more importance than the real one? Are we wandering in that world that we tend to forget our real lives and circumstances?

Though certain professional social networking profiles such as LinkedIn do benefit us in many peoples by networking and building a good professional rapport as well as providing recruitment and job search services hence there is a positive side to social networking as well. With the rise in the number of photo blogging, video sharing, messenger networking applications and websites, like Instagram, Pinterest, and Line, the youth are constantly kept on their toes and marketers have found a new way to brand their products through Social Media Optimization. These days most of the Indian firms have been bitten by the social media bug. Read: ( It has become a trending method for marketing, pushing sales and gaining new business.

Today a brand campaign would be incomplete without its share of social media campaigning. Be it Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, LinkedIn or YouTube, the buzz or viral marketing has helped brands create strategies as well as promote, hold contests, generate brand recognition and recall among the target audience. Pay per click ads, or normal web ads and banners find great amount of reach and visibility through these social media channels. In fact YouTube and Facebook have become the essentials for all ad houses in order to broadcast and publicize their campaigns.

Also one is able to reach out publicly to the masses on a larger platform and voice their opinions only through the help of these social networking platforms. Not just networking but spreading awareness on social and current issues and civic sense such as during the elections, there was a huge buzz created on the necessity and importance of voting, encouraging every youth and citizen to vote in order to bring about a change in the democracy.

So overall if one tries to balance the positive with the negative, the pessimistic side seems to be overshadowed with the strong optimistic view on social networking. It has not just created a simple change in media but revolutionized people’s approach towards socializing and being connected. They say everything is good if consumed in right doses and quantities; So is the case with social networking. We need to know and understand for ourselves as to where to draw the line. Hence I would say that finding the right balance between your virtual and real world, finds you the best times of your life.

grab readers excited about what you’ve got to say. Just my opinion, it would
