Killing her or killing your world?
Welcome to my new post for the day! I would like to thank you for taking time out to read my previous article on crime against woman. Today in this article, I will be speaking about the extension of crimes against females. This time it’s the most shameful crime against females. I am talking about Female Feticide. Shocking! Disgusting! What a shame it is to hear of the girl child being killed for one’s own selfish needs and motives. Even thinking about it makes my blood boil in anger. I decided to write on this sensitive and crucial subject because even though it is known among all, it is still not really ‘known’ among all. There are so many hidden facts which people are not aware of. As you read on you will be shattered and shocked with the truth.
Gender ratio difference doesn’t just make a change to the census of the society but impacts the world psychologically and emotionally as well. Why is it that the world wants a boy and not a girl? The mentality of some people still are of the opinion that a grandson would bring greater luck and carry on the family name. It’s such a shame that even today such sick mentality exists and is being supported shockingly not just by the illiterate but educated and literate fools as well.
Where on earth has sanity vanished? Does carrying forward the family name mean everything? There are many NGO’s and foundations that are working towards banning abortion of the female fetus but sex determination tests even though are illegal in India, still continue to be carried out on the quiet. One may think of it to be the fault of the poor uneducated population who feel bringing home a girl would mean more expenses and bad luck. The reality though says that even the higher class of people opt for this pathetic idea of female feticide because having a boy to them make things less complicated as the boy could inherit their properties, wealth and carry forward the family name.
Female infanticide is a continuation where in certain case if feticide is not possible, couples opt for female infanticide. Many times couples have to bear the family pressure by in laws and other family members to have only a male child as the heir. Foetal sex determination and sex-selective abortion has been estimated to be an INR1000 crore (US$170 million) industry. The Indian government has passed Pre-Conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Prevention of Misuse) (PCPNDT) Act in 2004 to ban and punish prenatal sex screening and female foeticide. It is currently illegal in India to determine or disclose sex of the foetus to anyone. However, there are concerns that PCPNDT Act has been poorly enforced by authorities. You can find the source of these ultimate facts and figures on this very crucial subject at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Female_foeticide_in_India.
This social evil, consisting of getting rid of the girl child to fulfill one’s desires and bend to family pressure has caused so much of trouble and the worst part is that women and aged women too are participating in this act rather than going against it. If we look at this problem from a wider perspective then the rate of less female population effects the human cycle. With few women left to marry or give child birth the society is left with a larger male population which is absurd and wrong. Also since the number of females reduce hence it causes rise to women trafficking and increase in rape and assault.
Steps need be to taken to prevent this from happening. The law enforced has to be made stricter. Anyone who dares break the law should be sentenced to prison for a lifetime. Be it a person who is seeking to do the test, a medical representative, doctor or hospital who undertakes the test inspite of there being a legal ban, such people should pay a heavy penalty.
Girls are the epitome of a family. They build and bond homes and relationships. Destroying and preventing them from breathing a new life is not just a crime but destruction to humanity and nature as well. It is important to have a balance in the gender ratio for a better world. If the number of girls decreases who will men marry? How can motherhood prevail? The balance of life would be drastically shaken.
Campaigns need to be driven to ensure that both the educated and uneducated sections of the society are made aware of the social issue. The youth both boys and girls, needs to actively engage and drive people to participate in campaigns against female feticide.
“A baby girl is one the most beautiful miracles in life, one of the greatest joys. She can dance into our hearts, twirl her little toes, scattering gold dust and kisses in our path. She is the reason for that extra sunshine, hope, laughter, giggles, innocence and happiness in one’s world today. She may turn out to be someone’s best friend, mother, daughter, wife, sister, lover and soul-mate. Killing her would mean killing one’s world. Think about it!”
So with these words of wisdom, I bring this article to a closure. Thank you ladies and Gentlemen for investing your time to read my blog. Do continue to read my upcoming posts and one more thing guys, happy reading!
